Europe’s Best Kept Secrets

Plenty of people want a change in the way our environment is treated, but for many it is only in words and action. They go on living the same non eco-friendly way they always have. But luckily there are some who are going the distance for the benefit of all.
Julia “Butterfly” Hill has been an active environmentalist since 1996 after being involved in an automobile accident. She is well known for having lived for nearly two years in the branches a redwood tree to keep it from being cut down.
Former American vice-president Al Gore has been an important figure at environmental functions and is an active environmentalist, addressing problems such as global warming and has authored a book titled An Inconvenient Truth.
The late Steve Irwin drew attention to the more difficult to love animals and created an understanding of them and encouraged conservation of the habitat and animals.
Some quotes that are note-worthy are from environmentalists and great thinkers alike.
Mother Theresa said, “There must be a reason why some people can afford to live well. They must have worked for it. I only feel angry when I see waste. When I see people throwing away things we could use.”
“The weight of our civilisation has become so great it now ranks as a global force and a significant wild card in the human future along with the Ice Ages and other vicissitudes of a volatile and changeable planetary system.” Dianne Dumanoski Rethinking Environmentalism
“The Truly Healthy environment is not merely safe but stimulating.” William H. Stewart Environmental Science and Technology
“When the well's dry, we know the worth of water.” Benjamin Franklin Poor Richard's Almanac
“To be whole. To be complete. Wildness reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from.” Terry Tempest Williams (addressing the senate in 1995)

Gourmet Hotspots

There's more to fine European cuisine than French restaurants. Not only does Europe house gastronomy's oldest ambassador, it is also home to a wide range of other countries with an impressive culinary tradition, drawing on a ready availability of great cuisines from across the globe.
Here's our guide to where best to hunt down an amazing meal:
San Sebastian, Spain
San Sebastian is home to more Michelin-starred restaurants per square mile than any other city across the globe, beating even Paris and New York. Lying at Spain's northern border, just below the Pyrenees, this beautiful city is worth visiting for it's rich history – but for those in the know however - it is all about the food. For three star fine dining head to the delectable, world renowned Arzak, or for more affordable Basque fayre head for the always popular La Muralla.
Bray, UK.jpg)
Despite being a little known English village, miraculously, Bray is also home to two of the UK's three star Michelin restaurants: The Fat Duck and the Waterside Inn. The Fat Duck is run by experimental and ground-breaking chef Heston Blumenthal and is regularly cited as one of the top three restaurants in the world (1st in 2005); be sure to book in advance though as it can have a waiting list over a month long.
Lyon, France
An alternative to the more obvious hotspots of Paris, Lyon has a unique culinary tradition of its own and, as such, regularly draws visitors seeking its gourmet charms. It is also deeper into the French countryside, making it a charming place for a holiday base. You may already be familiar with the famous Lyonnaise sausages; however there is a plethora of other amazing produce to be found here. Lyonnaise cooking is usually hearty and typical dishes include sole meuniere and quenelle de brochette (pike wrapped in puff pastry). There are also a great number of food markets to be found here.
London, UK
The UK is not traditionally associated with good food, and its own culinary history is perhaps not as fullsome or as appetising as France and the Mediterranean, however what London excels at is offering the widest variety of cuisines in the world. Head to the British capital for the best Chinese, Indian, even (shh) French cuisines, amongst many others. Areas of the city have been become well known for their styles of cooking, for example Vietnamese on Kingsland Road in Hackney. A great number of top international chefs are also bred here, creating a flourishing fine dining scene. Borough Market is also a foodie destination not to be missed.

Best Music Festivals
Reason
Posted by:
europeantickets
Europe has always been a top destination for architecture and history. Now, more and more, there are a growing number of fantastic music festivals that you might want to include in your next trip - or that might even tempt you to visit a new European destination for the summer music scene alone.
Here's our top 5:
Glastonbury, UK
The original and, in most eyes, still the best. Usually staged towards the end of June, this four day music extravaganza attracts a huge and loyal crowd. Born on the folk scene and growing into an indie pilgrimage site, the festival has recently had (controversial) mainstream headliners like Beyonce, U2 and Jay-Z. Based on a farm in Somerset, it is subject to the UK's unpredictable weather and has become famous for its mud… Not that it puts off the hundreds of thousands of revellers each year.
Benicassim, Spain
Located in a port between Valencia and Barcelona this four day festival is in a great spot, right on one of Spain's best beaches. This is a really popular spot for music lovers and always has great headliners, including The Strokes and Arcade Fire in recent years. Conveniently, it's also really close to the nearest village so you can spend your evenings in warm, dry, quiet lodgings if you're sick of sleeping in a tent. If you are camping however, you'll have the luxury of proper shower facilities!
Exit, Serbia
Newer to the scene is this Serbian festival, located in the pretty surroundings of an 18th century fortress on the banks of the Danube. Quickly gathering pace since it's first year in 2000, it was voted ‘Best European Festival' in 2007 and regularly attracts a quarter of a million partygoers. Its origins were as a political festival, and it still aims to foreground social issues for young Serbians. It caters for a vast range of music tastes, from the typical indie festival crowds to house and trance.
Garden Festival, Croatia
A baby on the European circuit, this 2006 born festival has quickly become hugely popular amongst seasoned festies, steadily growing in size with each passing year but still managing to retain its intimate feel. Based on the Adriatic coast near the sleepy village of Petrcane, this party festival has a big dance focus, and is based in beautiful surroundings. Make the most of the popular boat in which incredible parties are held over this seven day extravaganza.
Open'er Festival, Poland
This legendary festival takes place on a huge airfield with seven stages - so there's plenty of space to cater to all musical tastes. Acts range from reggae and funk, alongside typical festival headline acts like Coldplay. There's even a mini festival town here, and it also offers film and theatre productions, adding much more to the vibe than simply music.

Travel Europe, Travel Cheap

Everyone dreams of that perfect getaway. Often referred to as the old world, Europe exudes so much flavour, history and culture, that many people throughout the world choose it as their number one holiday destination.

Reserved but liberated, diverse but united, old but beautiful, different but intriguing. It's certainly all that you've heard about and so much more besides. Whether you visit the romantic capital of the world, Italy, or the charming city of Vienna, backpack through Germany or dance the flamenco in Spain, Europe is worth writing home about.
Once there, you may want to visit cities and countries throughout the small and diverse continent. But how do you get there and how can you do it all on a cheap budget? Surprisingly, it's not that difficult.
The nice thing about European accommodation is that you can find countless budget hostels in many of the major cities. Hostels are ideal for a cheap trip and they are generally comfortable enough to give you a good night's sleep. Most hostels supply tea and coffee making facilities as well as a continental breakfast and a fridge to put your own food in. Although prices vary throughout Europe, you are generally looking at about 15- 25 euros per a night, which isn't too bad when you compare it with a regular hotel.
For food, there are plenty of restaurants that will charge you extortionate prices, so avoid these tourist traps by not dining out near popular historical or tourist sites. These restaurants and bars will usually charge you more than you would find in other places. Do some research and you will find a hidden gem to eat delicious, cheap and authentic food. La Cave a Fromage.
Or you can always buy your own food at the supermarket for less, depending on your duration of stay and your accommodations facilities. Market stalls are often the most trustworthy places to buy food from, just be prepared to speak some of the native language.

Reason

Europe is unquestionably the most exciting place on the planet. It's got so much in the way of history, scenery, diversity, great food and, let's not forget, parties. Partying in Europe is an experience of a life time. Of course, there are some more laid back cities, but Europe is also home to some of the world's most legendary party hotspots.

Have you ever been looking for a bar or club, but the residents of the city are cold and snobby? You won't find that in the captivating city of Barcelona. It's no coincidence that it has a song written about it and that many a student and traveller enjoy visiting this Spanish (or Catalan) destination. People are friendly, outgoing and up for fun; a great combination for a good time.
Amsterdam is notorious for being a city where “vices” are legal, thus making it a number one city for party animals to visit. If you don't mind that some illegal substances and practices are legalised, then you will find that Amsterdam is a great place to visit. The locals are friendly and the tourists are wild and up for a good time.
Are you looking for more of a beach party experience? If so, then it is highly recommended that you try visiting the Greek island of Mykonos? Not only is it a beautiful and fascinating paradise to be around during the day, it's also a thrilling place to party at night with its enchanting and colourful clubs and bars.
Paris must not be forgotten. The Parisian nightlife is like nowhere else and always packed with endless variety. Whether you like the tradition style of the Moulin Rouge or a more lively dancing experience in the Latin Quarter, one thing is for sure: you will not be disappointed

How to Fly Cheap
Reason

europeantickets
Travelling throughout Europe isn't as difficult as it may seem and it is possible for those people on just a shoestring budget. It just takes some saving and thorough research. Once you have found the best deals and reached your desired destination, it will certainly be worth it.
People often hear of great deals from friends and family but, when you go to check, the normal high prices are listed. Fortunately, with a little time and patience, there are many bargains to be found, especially when flying from another continent to Europe.
If you fly from the United States you can try the website Tripadvisor, which lists many of the cheapest flights to Europe. Or if from Mexico, Jetairfly is a good option, although it only flies from the city of Cancun to Brussels, Belgium.

If you are looking for cheap intercontinental flights, it may mean flying to a city other than your destination and, once on the European continent, you can take another flight or mode of transport to reach your destination. Although time consuming, this is often the best way to travel as you can save money as well as stumble upon towns and cities that are off the beaten track.
Flying within Europe is quite simple and cheap if you choose one of the budget airlines such as Wizair, EasyJet, Jetairfly or Ryanair. Ryanair is known for having the cheapest flights and is a good choice if don't mind travelling for an hour or so to get to the airports. Although billed as ‘London' or ‘Barcelona', they are often situated a long distance away. But, considering the money saved, it is generally worth the extra time.
Inter-European flights can be as low as 9 Euros. Make sure you travel lightly though, as many cheap flights have luggage restrictions and charge extra for checked-in luggage.

Imagine a place with perfect scenery and aesthetically pleasing architecture. Imagine being surrounded by new languages, with other foreign countries just a short train ride away. Imagine eating authentic local delicacies. Fascinating, historical, captivating, exciting and beautiful; five words just aren't enough to describe what travelling through Europe is like.
That all sounds great, you say, but not all of us are have money to burn. Fortunately, there are a number of options when travelling throughout Europe, whether you're the kind that likes stylish and luxurious (and can afford it) or if you are a young student or someone looking to leave less of a dent in your wallet. However you travel, you can pick from 5 star hotels and cheap hostels.
.jpg)
One destination you should consider is the beautiful city of Florence, Italy. There plenty of places to visit and it is rich in Italian culture. Depending on your length of stay, the best option would be the rent an apartment. It can be cheaper than staying at a hotel and definitely more comfortable. Many European cities have rental apartments with the influx of tourists they receive so they are quite easy to find. You can rent these places for anytime, from one weekend up to a month or longer.
If you are just passing through Paris to see the sites and take in the Parisian experience, try a hostel for a few nights. Reserving in advance is usually the best option as beds at hostels sell like hot cakes. It's worth doing a little research and reading reviews online. Most hostels can be a very pleasant experience, but others may leave you missing home.
If you are interested in luxury hotels with room service, gourmet restaurants and fancy suites, there are plenty. If you want to spend a weekend in Switzerland, admiring the gorgeous scenery and rich experience, or visit the enchanting city of Rome, there are many options with 5 star hotels throughout Europe.

Europe’s Unique Top Five
Reason

europeantickets
Europe is perhaps the most diverse of all the continents. The variety is remarkable and you needn't travel far to get from one country or city is to the next. Often cities are similar, with modern buildings and high street shops, but if you look further you will find that many are unique and special in their own way.
Barcelona is an intriguing place that combines history and modernism, next to the sea, making it a very popular attraction and a definite must to visit. Many of the buildings were created by Gaudi and you will be captivated with his unique style. The city's modern architecture is daring and exciting. If you like walking through historical areas but also enjoy a contemporary feel, Barcelona is definitely for you. It's a city with so much rolled into one, that it will take you days to get to know and, once there, you may never want to leave.
Paris is a unique location, if you are looking for places to visit in Europe. The city breathes romance, history, and adventure. It's a city of fashion, a city of love and a city that boasts its own particular pride. The Louvre is a great place to go to see famous art and the history behind the museum itself is as intriguing as the artwork you will find in it. Paris tells an amazing story; a story worth knowing.
.jpg)
Berlin is not necessarily the first place you think of when planning your Euro trip, but a place you should definitely keep in mind. Most of its historical sites aren't as ancient as many other European hot spots, but Berlin's history gives tourists an interesting look at the 20th century as well as the current state of art, culture, and late-night partying.
Perhaps you wouldn't consider the war-torn city of Sarajevo as a place to visit, but the strength and spirit of the natives is a captivating enough reason to make a trip to this city that is full of history, variety and culture. You can find tradition in its churches, a Turkish air in its fortresses and Jewish influence in the synagogues.
Venice is considered to be a definite place to visit due to its unique layout of canals and narrow roads. Of course the city's romance can be found in other cities in Europe, but nowhere is quite like Venice. Take a romantic gondola boat ride during sunset or a swanky candlelight dinner. Venice is the perfect destination for couples.

Tickets to Estonia!

A new survey says that Estonia is becoming a fast-growing tourist destination in Europe, as 2010 figures tell. According to data, the number of hotel accommodations last year rose to more than 15%, and the trend seems going up. The growth could be due to Estonia's Euro zone membership. Estonia has become more accessible for people all across Europe.
It is the most picturesque of the t hree Baltic States and is famed for its lush temperate forests, scenic wetlands, and distant islands. With its low population density, much of country is left untouched—unlike most other countries which are hugely changed by the modern times. The vast Estonian landscape is a mix of varying ecosystems from plains to bogs and unspoiled forests. Estonia has also built a reputation being a friendly and avant-garde nation. There are more than one thousand lakes on largely flat surface of Estonian land. Nearly two thirds of the country is below 50 meters above sea level, and there are around seven thousand streams and rivers that course to the sea, lakes, and swamps.
Tallinn is the capital of and the largest city in Estonia. You can witness the influence of the 14th and 15th century architecture in the city, as it was able to preserve its heritage. The ancient times seem to live in the old town of Tallinn where you can see a mix of centuries old walls, towers, and pavements. However, the rest of the capital bears the modern touch. There are a number of attractions that are enticing—the Estonian Art Museum, Kiek-in-de-Kök (a tall and solid tower built in 1475), 19th-century Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and Lutheran cathedral Toomkirik.
Tartu, on the other hand, is the intellectual capital of Estonia, as opposed to Tallinn being the political and medieval capital. The city, which is also branded as the University Town, has a laid back clime with approachable and modest people.
Pärnu has to be the summer capital of Estonia and is a popular getaway for people who want relaxation. It lures tourists with its unadulterated shores and a good range of festive events. The environment is serene and very suitable for people who want to escape the stress of the urban world. One can enjoy the serenity or the mud baths.
